German Chancellor Angela Merkel is self-quarantining after being notified that a doctor who administered a vaccine to her last week tested positive for COVID-19.

The announcement on Sunday from Merkel’s spokesman, Steffen Seibert, comes shortly after the chancellor unveiled new measures to counter the spread of the virus in Germany.

Seibert said in his statement that Merkel was notified of the doctor’s results soon after delivering her address to the German public.

“For this reason the chancellor has decided to immediately quarantine herself at home,” he said, adding that she will be regularly tested over the next several days.

“She will continue to carry out her official business from home,” Seibert added.

Merkel on Sunday expanded restrictions in the country to combat the pandemic, forbidding Germans from socializing in groups of more than two, except for families.
