Ukrainian prosecutor tied to Trump scandal says Hunter Biden ‘did not violate anything’

Ukraine’s former prosecutor general said in a new interview that his investigation into Hunter Biden, the son of former Vice President Joe Biden, was abandoned after turning up no evidence of wrongdoing on Hunter Biden’s behalf.

Yuri Lutsenko, who resigned earlier this year and is now at the center of the scandal surrounding President Trump’s efforts to convince Ukraine’s president to launch an investigation into Joe Biden, denied that his investigation was ended due to pressure from the Obama administration in an interview with The Washington Post.

{mosads}“From the perspective of Ukrainian legislation, he did not violate anything,” Lutsenko said of Hunter Biden. “Hunter Biden cannot be responsible for violations of the management of Burisma that took place two years before his arrival.”

Lutsenko told the Post that until his resignation in August, he never received any aid from U.S. investigators, even following Trump’s July phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, which has become the center of House Democrats’ impeachment inquiry.

“No American groups came to Ukraine for an investigation,” he said.

Trump’s conversations with Zelensky have been roundly criticized by Democrats and some Republicans on Capitol Hill, with the House now openly pursuing an impeachment inquiry into the president’s actions as Democrats accuse Trump of soliciting foreign assistance in the 2020 election.

Biden remains the 2020 Democratic front-runner in most polls, though he is closely trailed in some polls by Sens. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) and Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.).

The former vice president has denied putting any pressure on Ukraine’s government to abandon a probe into his son’s company and has called Trump’s actions evidence of the president abusing his authority.
