US mulls increased intelligence sharing with Saudi Arabia after oil attack: report
The U.S. is considering an increase in intelligence sharing with Saudi Arabia after Saturday’s attack on Saudi oil facilities, Reuters reported.
Officials did not tell the outlet how broad any increase in intelligence sharing might be.
{mosads}The U.S. has blamed Iran for the attacks on two oil refineries that affected roughly 5 percent of the global crude output, prompting oil prices to surge as trading opened on Wall Street Monday.
Tehran has denied involvement in the attacks, while Yemen’s Houthi rebels have claimed responsibility.
The Saudi-led military coalition said Monday that preliminary evidence indicates the weapons used in the attack are Iranian.
The U.S. has up to this point only selectively shared intelligence with Saudi Arabia about the threats from Houthi militants, according to Reuters.
A potential expansion of information sharing could trigger some backlash from Congress, where lawmakers have made several efforts to end U.S. support to the Saudi-led coalition fighting in Yemen’s civil war.
