Saudi Arabia’s King Salman is rejecting President Trump’s recognition of Israel’s claim to the Golan Heights.
He said Sunday that he “absolutely rejects” any measures affecting Syrian sovereignty over the disputed territory, according to Reuters.
{mosads}Trump last week signed a proclamation officially recognizing Israel’s claim over the Golan Heights, breaking with decades of American policy precedent.
“This was a long time in the making,” Trump said while signing the proclamation. “Should have taken place decades ago.”
Syria’s foreign ministry at the time called Trump’s measure a “blatant attack on Syria’s sovereignty and its territorial integrity.”
The decision follows Trump’s move to officially recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, and to open a new U.S. Embassy in Jerusalem.
