NHL reschedules 98 games postponed due to COVID-19

The NHL plans to reschedule 98 games that were postponed due to COVID-19-related issues. 

In a statement on Wednesday, the league unveiled an updated schedule that would allow all 32 league clubs to complete their regular season play by the season’s original date of April 29. 

The shifts in the schedule would result in 95 games being played between Feb. 7 and Feb. 22, a period that originally was to serve as a break for the league coinciding with the Winter Olympics.

The league announced last month that players won’t participate in the upcoming Beijing Winter Olympics amid COVID-19 concerns.

“We are profoundly grateful to our fans for their support and understanding during a challenging time, and to our clubs, the NHL Players’ Association and the players for their cooperation in a rescheduling of unprecedented logistical complexity,” League Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly said in a statement. 

According to The Associated Press, the league has postponed a total of 104 games this season, including dozens linked to Canada’s attendance restrictions.
