Brazilian president Bolsonaro tested for coronavirus days after meeting Trump

Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro is reportedly being monitored and tested for coronavirus, Brazilian newspaper O Estado de S. Paulo reported Thursday, according to Reuters.

The newspaper also reported that Bolsonaro’s communications secretary, Fabio Wajngarten, tested positive for the virus, but is still waiting the results of a second test. Two sources confirmed his positive test to CNN.

Both Bolsonaro and Wajngarten visited Florida last week, including a meeting with President Trump at Mar-a-Lago, where they were planning to discuss trade, Venezuela, the Middle East and other issues. The two presidents reportedly shook hands, and Wajngarten stood next to Trump and Pence for a photo that he posted on his Instagram.

President Trump told reporters Thursday that he was not concerned about Wajngarten’s diagnosis.

Concern over the coronavirus spreading has dominated global headlines. Brazil’s outbreak thus far has remained largely contained, with 52 confirmed cases, while the U.S. has confirmed more than 1,300 cases and 38 deaths, according to data from Johns Hopkins University.
