Trudeau’s wife tests positive for coronavirus

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s wife, Sophie Grégoire Trudeau, has tested positive for COVID-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus.

According to a statement obtained by CBC News on Thursday, she and the prime minister will be in a 14-day quarantine. Trudeau is being tested for the virus, though he has reportedly not shown any symptoms.

“For the same reason, doctors say there is no risk to those who have been in contact with him recently,” the statement read.

There are 117 confirmed cases of the virus in Canada and one death, according to the Johns Hopkins Center for Systems Science and Engineering.

The prime minister’s wife is the latest high-profile case to be confirmed, with Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro’s press secretary testing positive earlier Thursday and actor Tom Hanks and his wife Wednesday.

Several U.S. lawmakers have put themselves in quarantine after interacting with people who have been confirmed as having the virus, including Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) and Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.).
