Over 2,000 fetal remains found on deceased abortion doctor’s property to receive a ‘proper burial’

More than 2,000 medically preserved fetal remains that were found on a recently deceased abortion doctor’s Illinois property last month will receive a “proper burial,” state officials say.

The Roman Catholic Diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend, Ind., said it will make its cemeteries available for the remains, The Associated Press reported Friday.

{mosads}Dr. Ulrich Klopfer, who died Sept. 3, performed abortions in Indiana with women’s health clinics in South Bend, Fort Wayne and Gary, but the state suspended his license in 2015 after two people accused him of performing abortions on 13-year-old girls without properly submitting records to the state’s health department, WNDU reported.

His family later found the 2,246 fetal remains while going through his property in Will County, and, in the weeks afterward, 165 additional sets of remains were discovered in the trunk of a car parked at a business where Klopfer kept his vehicles, the AP reports.

Most of the remains were from abortions Klopfer performed in the early 2000s.

The discovery of the remains has since prompted an investigation, and anti-abortion lawmakers have proposed legislation to require burial of aborted fetuses across the U.S., according to the AP.

Indiana law already requires the burial or cremation of fetuses.
