Trump campaign hits Democrats on health care for immigrants in ad to air during debate

President Trump’s campaign will air an ad during the Democratic debates this week highlighting the candidates’ support for providing health care to immigrants without legal status.

Democrats are “putting illegal immigrants before hardworking Americans,” says a narrator in the ad, which will air on CNN, MSNBC and Fox during the debates Tuesday and Wednesday.

The ad shows video from the second night of the first set of debates, when every Democrat on stage, including the front-runner, former Vice President Joe Biden, raised their hands when asked whose health care proposals would cover such immigrants.

“Democrats — radical, reckless, socialist,” the narrator says.

“They’re all the same.”

Biden’s health care plan, which he released after the first debates, would allow immigrants without legal status to buy coverage on the ObamaCare marketplaces, but they wouldn’t be eligible for subsidies.

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) has said his “Medicare for All” plan would include those who crossed into the country illegally.

Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) also raised her hand during the first debates to say she would provide health care to immigrants without legal status. Her plan released this week promises to cover “every individual in America.”

The Trump campaign will likely continue to hammer the issue as polls show voters don’t like the idea.

Polls show Americans are divided on the issue — 38 percent of respondents in a June CNN poll said they supported the idea while 59 were in opposition.
