Cuomo: Kavanaugh, Gorsuch are ‘going to reverse Roe v. Wade’

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) predicted Monday that Supreme Court Justices Brett Kavanaugh and Neil Gorsuch will overturn Roe v. Wade, the landmark ruling that established a constitutional right to abortion.

“Kavanaugh is going to reverse Roe v. Wade. I have no doubt. Gorsuch is going to reverse Roe v. Wade. I have no doubt,” Cuomo said, referring to the two justices appointed by President Trump.

Cuomo is also proposing the Comprehensive Contraception Coverage Act, which would improve access to birth control.

Cuomo vowed not to sign a state budget this spring if the two pieces of legislation aren’t first approved by state lawmakers.

The governor added that he wants to “take it a step further” and pass a constitutional amendment that would write a provision into the constitution “protecting a woman’s right to control her own reproductive health.”

“We’ll pass it next year, we’ll put it on the ballot, we’ll write it into the constitution and we’ll be able to say we have protected women’s rights in a way that no one else has before,” he said.

Former Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, who was at the event alongside Cuomo, also pushed for women’s rights during the event.

“I fiercely believe, as I said more than two decades ago, that human rights are women’s rights and women’s rights are human rights,” she said.
