Social media users attack proposed Medicaid cuts in GOP plan

Social media users are highlighting proposed cuts to Medicaid ahead of an expected House vote Thursday on a GOP bill to repeal and replace ObamaCare.

The bill slashes $880 billion in federal funding to Medicaid, according to the Congressional Budget office, despite President Trump’s campaign promises not to cut the program.

“Save Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security without cuts. Have to do it,” Trump said in June, 2015 as he announced his candidacy.

That contradiction did not escape Twitter users.

{mosads}Medicaid funding has been a sticking point for some moderates, who have concerns about how the American Health Care Act (AHCA) changes financing for the program, which provides health coverage to low-income and disabled Americans.

ObamaCare expanded the program to more low-income people.

If the AHCA passes the House, Medicaid funding could be a stumbling block in the upper chamber.

Senators from states where Medicaid was expanded have already expressed concerns, and GOP leadership can only afford to lose two votes and still pass the bill under the fast-track budget maneuver Republicans are hoping to use to repeal and replace ObamaCare.
