Liberal think tank says Ryan’s Medicare argument is ‘dishonest’
{mosads}Moreover, those cuts are just about the only part of the Affordable Care Act that would be left in place under Ryan’s budget, which calls for repealing most of the law.
Neera Tanden, president of the Center for American Progress and a counselor to the CAP Action Fund, criticized the GOP position Monday.
“We welcome a serious policy discussion in this campaign, but that kind of a debate requires honesty from both sides,” she said. “Right out of the gate, the Romney-Ryan ticket has failed that threshold test with its latest dishonest attack on the Affordable Care Act.”
She criticized Ryan for keeping the Medicare cuts in place while proposing “new tax breaks for the wealthiest Americans.”
Republicans, meanwhile, have criticized the healthcare law’s Medicare cuts by saying that any savings from Medicare should be re-invested in that program, rather than being used to pay for the new benefits under the Affordable Care Act.
