GOP lawmakers quiz AARP over support for health law

{mosads}The letter was signed by Sens. Tom Coburn (R-Okla.) and John Barrasso (R-Wyo.) and Reps. Charles Boustany Jr. (R-La.) and Phil Gingrey (R-Ga.).

The White House’s work with industry and outside groups on healthcare reform paralleled efforts by previous administrations and was largely reported as it happened. Democrats say the group’s actions were above board and public knowledge.

Democrats on the House Energy and Commerce Committee dismissed the GOP charges.

“There is nothing new here,” Reps. Henry Waxman (Calif.) and Diana DeGette (Colo.) said in a recent statement.

“The Republicans spent over a year on this investigation, received and reviewed countless documents from a dozen different organizations, and conducted multiple interviews — only to learn what was publicly reported years ago.”

As a whole, the healthcare law remains unpopular with the public. Its constitutionality will likely be decided by the Supreme Court next week.
