How Rush Limbaugh’s hefty tips helped fund abortions
Rush Limbaugh’s money once helped pay for women to get abortions — sort of.
Texas novelist and abortion-rights activist Merritt Tierce told the Dallas Morning News that she had received thousands of dollars in tips from Limbaugh while waitressing. She then gave a large chunk to a group that funds abortions in Texas.
{mosads}Tierce, who strongly leans liberal, said the $4,000 she received from Limbaugh while waitressing at a Dallas steakhouse felt like “blood money.”
She decided to donate “a sizable chunk” of it to an organization called Texas Equal Access Fund, which pays for about 1,000 abortions a year for low-income women.
“It felt like laundering the money in a good way,” Tierce told the Morning News about both times Limbaugh left her $2,000 tips on modest-size checks. “He’s such an obvious target for any feminist or sane person. It was really bizarre to me that he gave me $2,000, and he’s evil incarnate in some ways.”
Tierce is the former executive director of the abortion fund, and recently authored a New York Times op-ed called “This is What an Abortion Looks Like.”
Limbaugh is fiercely opposed to abortions, and has proposed that doctors use guns during the procedure to deter women from getting them. He has also accused Democrats of turning women into “abortion machines.”
