McConnell: Kentucky exchange not tied to O-Care

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) said Friday that Kentucky’s health insurance exchange is not connected to ObamaCare, the law that created the system.

The comment reportedly came as McConnell discussed his support for repealing the Affordable Care Act.

{mosads}Reporters pressed McConnell about what would happen to the 421,000 people who signed up for health coverage on Kentucky’s marketplace.

The minority leader then said that the fate of the state exchange was not connected to the future of the healthcare law, according to The Associated Press. The wire service did not provide quotes from the exchange.

The veteran senator is facing a challenge from Democrat Alison Lundergan Grimes in a race that will help determine which party controls the Senate next year.

Lundergan Grimes has embraced the state’s exchange but declined to say whether she would have voted for ObamaCare if she were in the Senate in 2010, the AP said.
