More ObamaCare funds go to mental health

The Health and Human Services (HHS) Department announced that $50 million more in ObamaCare funds will go to strengthen mental health services in local communities.

The notice comes as the one-year anniversary of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting approaches.

{mosads}While HHS did not mention the anniversary in its announcement, the funding is seen as part of the Obama administration’s push to focus on mental health in the shooting’s wake.

The effort gained momentum after Congress failed to approve new gun regulations, a major priority for the White House.

The HHS funding opportunity would allow about 200 community health centers to expand their services for people with mental illness and substance abuse disorders, the department said.

Vice President Biden will reportedly unveil the funding, in addition to $50 million from the Department of Agriculture, at an event Tuesday at the White House.
