Report: Physician quality not disclosed in most states
Consumers in most states have little access to detailed information about physician quality, particularly when it comes to specialists, according to a new report.
{mosads}Only two states received A grades in a ranking from the nonprofit Health Care Incentives Improvement Institute, while most others received a D or F for their transparency on provider quality and patient outcomes.
The issue is increasingly relevant, Kaiser Health News noted, as consumers with high-deductible plans seek metrics that describe providers’ performance.
The study looked at whether physician-quality metrics in each state were produced by third parties and easily accessible, among other factors.
