Alzheimer’s group applauds administration’s goal to stop the disease by 2025

{mosads}“This framework marks the first time that the United States has set an aggressive deadline to stop Alzheimer’s disease,” USAgainstAlzheimer’s chairman and co-founder George Vradenburg said in a news release. “Setting a time-based deadline has the great power of sharpening focus, and changing political will as well as the regulatory process.”

The draft plan is structured around five goals:

• Prevent and Effectively Treat Alzheimer’s Disease by 2025;

• Optimize Care Quality and Efficiency;

• Expand Patient and Family Support;

• Enhance Public Awareness and Engagement; and

• Track Progress and Drive Improvement.

Rep. Edward Markey (D-Mass.), co-chairman of the Congressional Taskforce on Alzheimer’s Disease, also applauded the framework. Markey is the author of the National Alzheimer’s Project Act, which required HHS to work with experts and representatives across the federal government to develop the plan.

“I am pleased that HHS has moved swiftly to develop America’s first comprehensive plan for fighting Alzheimer’s disease, and has included in the plan the bold and transformative goal for the prevention and treatment of Alzheimer’s by 2025,” Markey said in a news release. “When America has a plan, America wins.”
