The Treasury Department has sent out 2 million more direct payments that stemmed from the coronavirus relief bill, it announced Wednesday.

This is the fifth batch of payments that have come from the Treasury since the passage of the bill.

“Today’s announcement brings the total disbursed so far to approximately 159 million payments, with a total value of more than $376 billion, since these payments began rolling out to Americans in batches as announced on March 12,” the Treasury announced.

The 2 million direct payments equal more than $3.4 billion coming from the treasury in this batch.

Almost half of the payments went to individuals who recently filed their tax returns.

The Treasury has been sending out payments each week that started March 12 and will continue until all eligible adults get the payment.

In this batch, 1.2 million direct payments were directly deposited into personal accounts and 800,000 paper checks were sent out.

A total of 159 million payments have gone out since the passage of the coronavirus relief bill.

The bill provides most Americans with a $1,400 payment to help mitigate the economic toll the coronavirus pandemic has had on the country.
