Gary Cohn, a former top economic adviser to President Trump, on Sunday congratulated President-elect Joe Biden on winning the 2020 election.
“Congrats to President-elect @joebiden and Vice President-elect @kamalaharris,” Cohn tweeted. “I wish them great success in leading our country. With over 145M votes cast, both campaigns should be applauded for getting an unprecedented number of citizens engaged in the democratic process.”
Cohn, a Democrat and former Goldman Sachs president, served as chairman of the White House National Economic Council in 2017 and early 2018. He was a key player in the administration’s work on Trump’s 2017 tax-cut law, but disagreed with the president on trade.
Cohn said in a CNBC interview in September that he wasn’t certain whom he was going to vote for in the presidential election, saying he was interested in seeing Biden and Trump debate economic issues.
Cohn’s tweet comes after major news networks projected on Saturday morning that Biden won the election. Trump hasn’t conceded. Several Republican politicians have congratulated Biden, while others have yet to do so.
