Americans’ economic confidence ticks up after recent slide: Gallup

A new Gallup poll released Thursday shows that Americans’ confidence in the economy improved in November after taking a hit in recent months.

Gallup’s Economic Confidence Index registered at plus 29 for November, which is the highest it has been since July.

{mosads}Fifty-five percent of those surveyed said they believe the economy is doing either “excellent” or “good,” with only 9 percent rating the economy as “poor.”

Additionally, 52 percent believe that the economy is improving, while 41 percent think that economic conditions are worsening.

When asked an open-ended question about what was the biggest problem facing the U.S., 33 percent of respondents mentioned the government. Immigration, with 11 percent, and health care, with 6 percent, were the next biggest issues.

Confidence in Congress remained low at 24 percent, which was down from 25 percent in October.

The poll, conducted Nov. 1–14, randomly sampled 1,051 American adults and has a margin of error of plus or minus 4 percentage points.
