Biz group launches bus tour to promote GOP tax law

A business group is launching a bus tour on Friday to promote the new tax-cut law as Republicans seek to keep their majorities in Congress by promoting the law’s benefits.

The Job Creators Network (JCN) will kick off its “Tax Cuts Work” tour in Virginia Beach, Va., joined by Rep. Scott Taylor (R-Va.) and local business owners. Taylor may be vulnerable in the midterm elections, with the nonpartisan Cook Political Report rating his district “lean Republican.”

Dave Brat (R-Va.), Barbara Comstock (R-Va.), Peter Roskam (R-Ill.), Randy Hultgren (R-ill.) and Rod Blum (R-Iowa).

The tour comes as Republicans and Democrats have been engaged in a messaging battle over the tax law. Republicans have been touting the increases in people’s paychecks and the businesses that have offered bonuses. Democrats, however, have been arguing that the law mainly benefits wealthy individuals and corporations and have suggested that they would undo parts of the law if they take back Congress.

JCN spokesman Jack Mozloom said the goal of the tour is to bring the message of the tax cuts’ benefits to local communities and educate the public about why the tax cuts should be maintained.

“We think that the tax cuts are on the ballots this year and we’re thanking the Republicans who voted for it,” he said.

JCN describes itself as the “voice of Main Street.” Home Depot co-founder Bernie Marcus is one of the group’s founders, and other business leaders, including former executives with Best Buy and BB&T, are also involved with the group.
