Trudeau, Trump will talk trade next week

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will meet with President Trump at the White House next week to discuss a wide range of issues, including ways to strengthen their long-standing trading relationship.

Trudeau will arrive in Washington, D.C., as the fourth round of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) talks continue here, to discuss with Trump the importance of the economic relationship as well as international security issues. 

{mosads}”The United States is Canada’s top economic partner, and it’s important that we continue to work together to strengthen trade, investment and economic opportunity for people on both sides of our border,” Trudeau said in a statement.

“I look forward to discussing with President Trump how to enhance our mutual prosperity and security,” he said.

The fourth round of NAFTA talks are set for Oct. 11-15 in Washington.

Negotiators from the United States, Canada and Mexico are trying to hash out an updated version of the 23-year-old NAFTA. 

While in Washington, Trudeau will participate in the 2017 Fortune Most Powerful Women Summit, which will focus on gender equality and the ways women contribute to economic growth.

After the two-day visit in Washington, Trudeau will make his first official visit to Mexico, where he will meet with Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto to further discuss trade and regional cooperation.
