Treasury secretary hires four top aides
Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin announced Friday the hiring of four top aides, split between Washington veterans and New York finance moguls.
The Treasury Department announced that Dan Kowalski, Shannon McGahn, Justin Muzinich and Craig Phillips will all serve as Mnuchin’s counselors — advisers and policy experts who aren’t confirmed by the Senate.
Kowalski, who served as a budget policy director for President Trump’s campaign, spent nearly two decades in Congress, most recently as deputy staff director for the Senate Budget Committee.

He previously worked on the House Budget Committee and for the Congressional Budget Office. Kowalski will now advise Mnuchin on budgetary issues, the debt limit and infrastructure finance – three key issues facing the administration.
McGahn, who is the wife of Trump’s White House counsel Don McGahn, also has a long track record in D.C. She recently served as the staff director for the House Financial Services Committee and has served in a variety of communications roles for Republican congressional leaders. She will advise Mnuchin on legislative and public affairs.
Muzinich founded an international investment firm and will advise Mnuchin on domestic and international policy issues, including tax reform. He’s expected to work closely with the department’s Office of Tax Policy and the Office of Economic Policy. He also taught at Columbia Business School in New York and holds degrees from Harvard University, Harvard Business School and Yale Law School.
Phillips was a managing director at investment and management firm BlackRock. He’ll advise Mnuchin on domestic finance, housing finance policy and regulatory reform.
