Manufacturers call for vote on Treasury nominee Mnuchin
A leading business group is calling on the Senate to confirm President Trump’s Treasury nominee.
The National Association of Manufacturers CEO Jay Timmons wrote a letter to senators on Monday urging lawmakers to confirm Steven Mnuchin.
{mosads}His nomination is likely to reach the Senate floor this week.
Timmons called Mnuchin “an ideal candidate” whose “leadership skills and strong background in business and finance will help ensure that this key department fulfills its important mission to protect the integrity of the financial system, manage the federal government’s financial system and promote economic growth and job creation.”
Mnuchin was voted out of the Senate Finance Committee last week after panel Chairman Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) changed the standing rules that normally require at least one member from each party to be present for a vote.
Hatch’s decision came amid Democrats’ two-day protest against a vote on Mnuchin, saying they were further examining what they called misleading statements he made during his testimony.
For their part, manufacturers said they feel confident that Mnuchin understands he need for business tax reform that will boost the sector’s growth.
“Manufacturers want the United States to be the best place in the world to manufacture and attract foreign direct investment, and reforming our tax code in a way that that helps all manufacturers grow will help make that possible,” Timmons wrote.
