Camp, Ways and Means Dems to meet next week

Camp has vowed to pass a tax reform measure out of his panel this year, and Rep. Sandy Levin (D-Mich.) said Thursday that a meeting could help tax writers figure out how to make that package bipartisan.

{mosads}Levin, the top Democrat on the Ways and Means panel, noted that Democrats and Republicans remain divided on revenue. But he also said there were plenty of provisions, in both the individual and corporate codes, that need to be dug into.

“It’s not a questions of being left out. It’s a question of ensuring a full effort these next months, with full participation,” Levin said. “We need to look at all the major tax provisions.”

Republicans on Ways and Means have said previously that they’re willing to push a tax reform bill through the committee without Democratic votes – especially given that Democrats on the committee believe that any overhaul should raise revenue.

Camp has said that the bill Ways and Means will pass will be revenue-neutral. A final product, Camp has also stressed, will need to be bipartisan, given that Democrats control the Senate and the White House.
