Trump on Carrier furnace plant: ‘They will sell many air conditioners’
President-elect Donald Trump on Thursday said Carrier will sell more air conditioners as a result of a deal he brokered ahead of a trip to the company’s Indianapolis plant.
Look forward to going to Indiana tomorrow in order to be with the great workers of Carrier. They will sell many air conditioners!

Trump brokered a deal to keep 1,000 jobs at Carrier’s plant in Indianapolis from going to Mexico. But the workers in question don’t actually make air conditioners, a mistake Trump and the media have repeatedly made in covering the plant.
The factory in question makes gas furnaces, and the workers will continue to do so under the deal that will keep the jobs in Indianapolis. All of the jobs in question also deal with furnaces, though Carrier does make air conditioners.
A day before Trump’s latest tweet, Carrier released a statement on Wednesday saying: “We are announcing today that Carrier will continue to manufacture gas furnaces in Indianapolis.”
Carrier’s decision to keep the jobs in Indianapolis is a victory for Trump, who said he would work to prevent the job losses to Mexico, among other countries, and centered his campaign on economic populism.
Carrier had announced in February it would begin layoffs next year and gradually close the Indianapolis factory in several waves through 2019, saying it would save $65 million a year by relocating the jobs.
