Gallup: Americans pessimistic on economy

Americans have grown pessimistic about economic conditions in recent months, Gallup said Tuesday.

The polling company’s economic confidence index came in at negative 11, roughly in line with recent weeks.

{mosads}That’s below where the index was in early 2015, when it inched into positive territory. But it’s also far higher than it was for most of President Obama’s first term.

Gallup’s weekly index figures have come in at negative 11 or negative 12 since the last part of June, with one exception.

The polling company found that Americans were more optimistic about current conditions than about whether the economy is getting better or worse.
