US job fears back to pre-recession levels

People in the U.S. now feel as secure in their jobs as they did before the 2008 fiscal crisis, Gallup said Thursday.

The polling company said that 13 percent of employed adults feel there is at least a decent chance they’ll get laid off over the next year.

{mosads}That’s down 3 percentage points from a year ago, and far below the high of 21 percent that Gallup found in 2010. The 13 percent figure is also roughly equal to what Gallup found eight years ago, before the U.S. economy tumbled into recession.

Americans’ worries about whether they’ll get laid off has ebbed and flowed in recent years, but the demographics of who exactly is worrying has stayed fairly stable.

Those who make up to $30,000 a year have generally been two to three times more likely to worry about losing their job than those in higher income brackets. Younger workers and those with less education are also more concerned, and there has generally been little difference between men and women.
