Former senior House aide to Mayer Brown

Warren Payne, a former senior aide at the House Ways and Means Committee, has landed at Mayer Brown’s Washington office.

Payne served as former House Ways and Means Chairman Dave Camp’s policy director, advising the Michigan Republican on a range of tax, trade and economic issues – including tax reform, the so-called “fiscal cliff” and the Troubled Asset Relief Program.

{mosads}At Mayer Brown, Payne will advise clients on taxes, trade and government relations. His experience in those and other areas, like healthcare, and knowledge of the legislative process will be a boon to his new firm, said Duane Layton, co-leader of Mayer Brown’s global Government Relations and International Trade practices.

“I look forward to working with a cross-section of Mayer Brown lawyers across the globe in the firm’s highly accomplished international tax and trade practices to provide lobbying and policy analysis services to the firm’s impressive roster of clients,” Payne said in a statement.

Payne was often quite literally Camp’s right-hand man in and around the Capitol, even serving as the chairman’s press liaison in his final weeks in office.

He was also rumored to be a candidate to head up the Congressional Budget Office, a job which eventually went to Keith Hall.

Camp, Payne’s former boss, joined PricewaterhouseCoopers this month as a senior policy adviser.
