There’s a Senate Finance Committee reunion on tap for next week.
{mosads}Finance Chairman Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) announced Tuesday that the tax-writing panel would hold a Feb. 10 hearing to examine what Congress can learn from the 1986 overhaul of the tax code, as lawmakers seek a sequel these days.
The witnesses for the hearing are former Finance Chairman Bob Packwood (R-Ore.), who led the committee in 1986, and former Sen. Bill Bradley (D-N.J.), a tax writer and one of the driving forces behind the successful push for a tax overhaul.
Hatch and a former Finance chairman, Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), are two of the five current senators who were serving in the chamber when the 1986 act passed. (More than a half dozen other senators were in the House at the time.)
