Club for Growth issues Tea Party purity scorecard on freshmen
The conservative Club for Growth on Tuesday released a detailed
scorecard for freshmen House Republicans. The Club argues that despite Tea Party
rhetoric, many of the 87 member freshman class are not conservative
enough.
“What we found was that while some freshmen have lived up to the
promises they made to the tea party movement, dozens of them are
big-spenders and are no different from many of the veteran Republicans
they serve with,” it states. “In many cases, the rhetoric of the
so-called ‘Tea Party’ freshmen simply didn’t match their records.”
{mosads}Club for Growth is releasing its list just after many conservative
freshmen supported reauthorizing the Export-Import Bank. They are
penalized for that in the Club’s book.
The highest scores of 100 percent Tea Party purity go to Reps. Justin
Amash (Mich.), Tim Huelskamp (Kan.), and Raul Labrador (Idaho). Close
behind are Reps. Mick Mulvaney (S.C.), Marlin Stutzman (Ind.) and Joe Walsh
(Ill.) with 99 percent.
Bringing up the rear with 37 percent purity is Rep. David McKinley (W.V.).
