US, China meetings set for early July

Top U.S. and Chinese officials will meet in early July for their annual discussion on a broad range of economic and strategic issues.

Treasury Secretary Jack Lew and Secretary of State John Kerry will take the lead for the United States at the sixth meeting of the Strategic and Economic Dialogue (S&ED) in Beijing.

{mosads}The talks will focus on “the challenges and opportunities that both countries face on a wide range of bilateral, regional and global areas of immediate and long-term economic and strategic interest,” the Treasury Department said in a statement.

Lew and Kerry are expected to meet with the group’s co-chairmen Vice Premier Wang Yang and State Councilor Yang Jiechi, along with members of the Chinese delegation.

The talks trade-off locations between Washington and Beijing each year.

Lew was in China on Tuesday for meetings with top Chinese government officials about the nation’s long-term economic prospects amid slowing growth. The discussions were expected to center on Beijing opening up their markets as well as letting their currency, the yuan, appreciate at a faster pace.
