Schumer won’t endorse de Blasio tax increase

Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) declined to support a proposal from New York’s new mayor to raise taxes on wealthier citizens.

{mosads}Bill de Blasio, the new Democratic mayor in New York, has said that tax increase would go to help education.

But Schumer, while noting that he has supported federal tax increases on the wealthy, declined to weigh in on the proposal, despite being a resident of the city.

“It’s a more difficult issue at the state level, because people can leave and go to Connecticut or New Jersey or somewhere else,” Schumer said on ABC’s “This Week.”

Schumer added that he would leave that issue up to DeBlasio and Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D-N.Y.). “I have enough trouble at the federal level,” he said.
