DC pushes toward higher minimum wage

Washington D.C.’s city council unanimously backed a plan Tuesday to raise the minimum wage to $11.50 an hour.

{mosads}The council still needs to hold a final vote on the matter and send the bill to Mayor Vincent Gray’s desk, The Washington Post reports. Gray has said he prefers a lower minimum wage, $10 an hour, but the unanimous vote would appear to limit his options.

Montgomery and Prince George’s counties in Maryland have approved similar measures, in what the Post called “a rare act of regional cooperation.”
