IRS nominee gets hearing next week

The Senate Finance Committee will hold a nomination hearing next Tuesday for John Koskinen, President Obama’s pick to lead the IRS.

The hearing will come more than four months after Obama announced his intention to nominate Koskinen, who’s crafted a reputation as a turnaround artist, and roughly seven months after the IRS acknowledged singling out Tea Party groups.

{mosads}Koskinen is sure to get questions about how he plans to prevent that sort of issue from happening again, and to rebuild taxpayer confidence in the IRS.

His nomination hearing will also come after the IRS’s inspector general reported that ObamaCare tax credits could be susceptible to fraud.

Finance Chairman Max Baucus (D-Mont.) and the panel’s top Republican, Sen. Orrin Hatch (Utah), had hoped to release findings from their investigation into the IRS targeting this year. But that timeline might be pushed back, at least in part because of this fall’s government shutdown.
