Healthcare presents new challenges to IRS

The IRS, still facing pressure over its targeting controversy, will play a big role in the success of President Obama’s signature healthcare law, The Washington Post reports.

{mosads}The Affordable Care Act heaps a slew of new tasks on the tax-collecting agency – “the largest expansion of IRS responsibilities in recent history,” as one Treasury official put it. 

Those responsibilities, which include helping to enforce the individual mandate and distributing tax credits, come amid significant turnover at the agency. But IRS officials, noting that much of the work doesn’t begin until the 2014 tax season, say they’ll be ready.
