News organization sues for IRS training documents

Dean Patterson, a spokesman for the IRS, declined to weigh in on the lawsuit. “The IRS does not comment on pending litigation,” Patterson told The Hill.

GOP lawmakers have stepped up their inquiry into the IRS’s targeting in recent days, with House Oversight Committee Chairman Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) charging that Lois Lerner, the IRS official at the center of the controversy, had used her personal email address for official business.

Republicans on the House Ways and Means Committee have also alleged that the IRS has continued to target Tea Party groups.

But Democrats have stressed that while there were clearly management issues at the IRS, there’s no evidence of political motivation, and that the GOP is trying to twist the facts to score political points.
