Dean Patterson, a spokesman for the IRS, declined to weigh in on the lawsuit. “The IRS does not comment on pending litigation,” Patterson told The Hill.

GOP lawmakers have stepped up their inquiry into the IRS’s targeting in recent days, with House Oversight Committee Chairman Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) charging that Lois Lerner, the IRS official at the center of the controversy, had used her personal email address for official business.
