Issa plans next IRS hearing

Democrats have pointed out in recent weeks that groups that weren’t conservative also were closely scrutinized by the IRS, and that liberal groups were snagged on agency watch lists.

House Republicans have signaled this week that they still plan on making the IRS targeting a part of their legislative strategy, even as much of the congressional investigation stays underground.

A House Appropriations subcommittee approved a 24 percent cut in IRS funding on Wednesday, and Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) is preparing votes on six separate measures that relate to the IRS.

The Oversight panel also voted last month that Lois Lerner, a key IRS official in the controversy, waived her Fifth Amendment rights in an appearance before the committee.
