Shuler joins GOP in vote to extend Bush tax cuts for wealthy

Yarmuth said that Republicans should be willing to use the $350 billion from the amendment toward deficit reduction if they are willing to make cuts to social programs.

Republicans accused Yarmuth of not understanding small business, saying the taxes would hurt small-business owners.

“Don’t you guys like small-business people?” said Rep. Ken Calvert (R-Calif.).

Yarmuth responded by saying the GOP comments were condescending, and he had run a small business. He also decried GOP estimates that the budget would shrink unemployment to 4 percent by 2015.

“This is a Harry Potter budget.  Waive your wand and you create jobs,” he said.
