New acting IRS chief continues to staff up

Werfel also announced Monday that Jennifer O’Connor, a partner at WilmerHale in Washington, will join the chief counsel’s office at the IRS, where she will serve as counselor to both Werfel and the chief counsel, William Wilkins.

{mosads}The acting IRS chief made the announcement the same day he is to provide his first congressional testimony in his new role.

Werfel will appear before a House Appropriations subcommittee, as the agency tries to deal with both the targeting issue and a looming report that found excessive spending on conferences at the agency.

Maloy will replace Steven Miller, the acting IRS commissioner pushed out by President Obama last month, in the deputy commissioner role – after previously serving as commissioner of the agency’s large business and international division.

Grams is coming back to the IRS, where he was once the agency’s chief financial officer, after serving in that same position at the Veterans Affairs Department.
