Over 4,000 acres burned in wildfire near California airport

More than 4,000 acres have been burned in a wildfire near a California airport, Cal Fire announced Thursday night. 

Airport Fire, named due to beginning by the Eastern Sierra Regional Airport, has spread to around 4,136 acres.

Officials are calling it a vegetation fire that started on Wednesday, with around 690 personnel from San Bernardino assigned to combat the natural disaster, according to Cal Fire. 

Twenty percent of the fire has been contained as it has not damaged any buildings or killed anyone. 

Evacuation orders were put in place, according to USA Today, but were dropped on Thursday. 

Individuals at the Owens Valley Radio Observatory, the White Mountain Research Center and Big Pine town all had to leave the area on Wednesday. 

Officials say the fire that has been fueled by wind should be fully contained by Feb. 24.
