Almost 500,000 people were without power in Massachusetts Wednesday morning after a nor’easter battered the East Coast.

Approximately 100,000 in surrounding states are also without power due to the storm, according to poweroutage.us.

The National Weather Service for Boston posted on Twitter that travel is not currently recommended due to the “winds gusting over hurricane force.”

New England Customers: Our crews are deployed & assisting with damage & restoration efforts where conditions have been deemed safe from the powerful Nor’Easter impacting the region,” National Grid US tweeted.

Dozens of rescue missions had to be done in New Jersey and New York due to flooding, NBC News reported, while schools have shut down.

The Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency is telling residents to keep generators away from their homes, avoid downed power lines and call the utility company to report a power outage.
