UK man equates veganism to religion in lawsuit

A British man is claiming that veganism is a “philosophical belief” akin to religion in a discrimination suit over his firing from the League Against Cruel Sports.

“Some people only eat a vegan diet but they don’t care about the environment or the animals, they only care about their health,” Jordi Casamitjana told the BBC.

“I care about the animals and the environment and my health and everything.”

{mosads}”That’s why I use this term ‘ethical veganism’ because for me veganism is a belief and affects every single aspect of my life,” he said.

Casamitjana says he found that the League Against Cruel Sports was investing money in firms involved in animal testing and told his managers.

When there was no change, he informed other employees of the practice and was then fired.

The firm says he was terminated for “gross misconduct,” not for his ethical vegan beliefs.

“To link his dismissal with issues pertaining to veganism is factually wrong,” the firm told the BBC.

“Mr. Casamitjana is seeking to use his veganism as the reason for his dismissal. We emphatically reject this claim.”
