Greens troll Trump with climate change Snapchat filter

Environmentalists are using social media to take aim at two of their biggest election-year irritants on Wednesday — Donald Trump’s denial of the science behind climate change and the lack of debate questions on the topic. 

The Sierra Club has purchased a Snapchat filter tied to Wednesday night’s final presidential debate of 2016 in Las Vegas that reads, “Climate change is not a hoax but Trump is.” 

{mosads}The filter shows a tuff of yellow hair floating on a puddle of water, alluding to a web video the group published in September showing a melting ice sculpture of Trump’s head over audio of statements he’s made against the science behind climate change. 

The filter is available for people at the site of the debate at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. 

Trump, the Republican presidential nominee, doubts the science of man-made climate change and has tweeted that it’s a hoax perpetrated by the Chinese. 

He and Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton sparred over that statement during their first presidential debate and answered a question about energy policy during the second debate earlier this month. But beyond that, climate policy hasn’t been a major topic during the general election debates, a fact that has angered greens. 

In a Tuesday post, the Sierra Club said that “Trump has never been held accountable for his opposition on climate” and said moderator Chris Wallace should bring it up Wednesday. Greenpeace put out a statement saying Clinton and Trump “should take every opportunity during tonight’s debate to tell the American people how they plan to tackle climate change.”

In another statement, the NRDC Action Fund said that on climate, “We hardly need another debate to help us make up our minds. The choice between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton could not be more stark.”

Wallace has announced six topics for Wednesday night’s debate. None of them deal directly with climate change.
