Trump plans to visit Flint

Donald Trump is planning to visit Flint, Mich., Wednesday as the city works to recover from its devastating drinking water crisis.

An aide to Trump’s presidential campaign told The Detroit News on Tuesday about the GOP nominee’s plans to visit the city. The aide did not provide the newspaper any details about the visit.

{mosads}Trump previously told the paper that he would visit Flint “at some point” during the campaign.

Residents in the city of 100,000 still cannot drink unfiltered tap water due to lead contamination.

Under the supervision of an appointee of Gov. Rick Snyder (R), the city in April 2014 switched its water source to the Flint River, but the water was never properly treated, and it corroded the system’s lead pipes.

“I think it’s a horror show that it was allowed to happen and, to be honest with you, it should have never, ever been allowed to happen,” Trump told the Detroit News previously about Flint’s water crisis. “That was really the problem.”

Thanks to a change in the source, treatments, repairs and more, Flint’s water is improving. But some residents still suffer from the effects of lead poisoning, which can include neurological problems.

Hillary Clinton visited Flint twice during her race for the Democratic nomination against Sen. Bernie Sanders, and the two held a debate there. Later, Democrats produced a video highlighting Clinton’s work in Flint and showed it at the Democratic National Convention.
