Green group launches ad backing Clinton on climate

A major environmental group is rolling out its first ad campaign for the 2016 presidential election, promoting Democrat Hillary Clinton’s climate change stance.

The digital ad from the League of Conservation Voters (LCV) mocks Donald Trump, the front-runner for the Republican nomination. It shows a video from a rally where he mentions climate change and declares, “A lot of it’s a hoax. It’s a hoax.”

{mosads}It contrasts that with Clinton, playing a speech where she said, “We’re not going to keep silent when they say climate change isn’t real … so we’re going to fight and we’re going to win.”

LCV’s Action Fund endorsed Clinton in November, the earliest the group had ever endorsed in an presidential election cycle.

The move came despite Sen. Bernie Sanders, Clinton’s main rival, making climate change a central part of his campaign.

But the target of the ad released Thursday was Trump, not Sanders.

The ad features, and is narrated by, a young girl. When Trump asks at his rally, “Who believes in global warming, raise your hand,” the girl raises her hand and says, “Mr. Trump, I do.”

LCV is spending about $160,000 on the ad campaign and targeting it toward Democrats voting in early primaries and caucuses in Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina, Nevada, Colorado and Virginia.
