Green group targets McCarthy over national parks

The League of Conservation Voters is targeting House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) in a new Facebook ad campaign.

The green group ad blasts McCarthy for opposing new parks designated as national monuments by President Obama.

{mosads}“With all these outstanding public lands in our district, why does our congressman, House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy, oppose America’s newest park—the San Gabriel Mountains National Monument—which has overwhelming support from nearby residents in Los Angeles?” the ad states.

“Majority Leader McCarthy should know that Americans want more parks, not less, and he should use his new role in the House leadership to help communities safeguard their special places rather than criticize the president for leading when the House of Representatives refuses to protect places like the majestic San Gabriel Mountains,” it adds.

The group asks people to send McCarthy a message saying they support more national monument designations.

After Obama named his thirteenth monument earlier this month, McCarthy slammed the president, calling it a “land grab.”

“Once again this Administration is taking unilateral action without Congressional or public input by naming the San Gabriel Mountains a National Monument,” McCarthy said. “This action restricts access to public lands and would put nearly half of the Angeles National Forest under lock and key.”
