Steyer puts $15M into his climate super-PAC

Billionaire climate activist Tom Steyer put another $15 million into his super-PAC NextGen Climate, according to recent filings.

Federal Election Commission records from NextGen Climate filed Tuesday night show Steyer contributed $15 million in September.

{mosads}That puts Steyer’s total contributions to his political group this year to roughly $41 million, closing in on the billionaire’s pledge to funnel $50 million of his own money into the political action committee, which is dedicated to making climate change a central issue in the midterm election.

Last month, outside donors contributed $1.9 million into the super-PAC, equal to the total amount NextGen and its Florida wing raised from outside sources all year.

Steyer recently pushed back against reports that he had promised he would fundraise another $50 million from outside sources for his group, claiming that figure was put out there by someone in NextGen.

NextGen has pushed the issue of climate change and need to curb the use of fossil fuels in several critical Senate races across the country, attempting to shame climate skeptics.

In its final push before November, NextGen will target skeptics in ads, and at events, urging them to change their stance on climate change science.
